Jose Romero was convicted of insurance fraud on February 10, 2015 and ordered to pay enforceable restitution in the amount of $33,867.00. Romero was sentenced to 15 years of probation and 50 hours of community service.

Consequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Jose Romero on June 18, 2014 in Sarasota County, Florida. With an outstanding warrant, Romero fled the country.
On August 1, 2014, Romero was arrested in the Miami-Dade airport by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials as he returned back to the U.S. from Nicaragua. Romero was charged with insurance fraud, violating F.S. 440.105- Fraud False Statement-Misrepresentation and F.S. 837.02- Perjury in an official proceeding.
As part of Command’s Restitution Management Program™, close contact was maintained with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure that all victims’ rights are asserted, aggressively protected and maintained.
